Get Sourcecode External

The Viewshare service was retired in March 2018.

After March 20, 2018 there will be no public access to Viewshare.org. All data will be taken offline and personal identifying information will be destroyed. This means all embedded views utilizing Viewshare will also no longer work.

Thank you for your interest and use of the tool. We will be posting links to the GitHub External where the source code will live with documentation on how to deploy your own version of Viewshare, if you’d like to do that.

Background

Viewshare was developed by Zepheira for the National Digital Information Infrastructure and Preservation Program in 2009 as a way to share collections our partner organizations preserved under the program. It was launched in 2011 to the public as a beta service from the Library of Congress to provide access to diverse sets of content in visual ways. It continued as a beta and underwent a major user-interface upgrade in 2014. Two years ago, the NDIIP program was retired and the Viewshare service has followed that path. We learned a lot from this experiment and sincerely hope you did as well. A more complete write up of the lessons-learned from running the Viewshare service will be published in the coming months.
